This Privacy Policy explains how Black History Battle ("we," "our," or "us"), operated by Akili Group LLC, collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "App").
By using Black History Battle, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information. When you create an account, we collect:
- Username
- Email address
- Password (stored as a one-way encrypted hash — we never store your plain-text password)
Gameplay Data. As you play, we collect:
- Your level, XP, and progress through chapters and bonus packs
- Questions answered and correct/incorrect responses
- Badges earned and leaderboard rankings
Purchase Information. When you make a purchase (Premium upgrade or bonus packs), payment is handled entirely by a third-party processor. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made and which product was purchased, but we do not receive or store your credit card number, bank details, or any sensitive payment credentials.
Communications Preference. At signup, you may opt in to receive updates from us. You can change this preference at any time in your account settings.
Technical Data. We may collect standard technical information such as your device type, operating system version, and IP address for security and analytics purposes.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To track your progress, XP, and achievements
- To power global leaderboards and social features
- To process and verify purchases
- To send you occasional updates and announcements (only if you opted in)
- To improve the App and fix bugs
- To comply with legal obligations
3. Payment Processors
Black History Battle uses third-party payment processors depending on how you access the App:
Stripe — used for purchases made through our website (blackhistorybattle.com). Stripe processes your payment information directly. We do not store your card details. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
Google Play Billing / RevenueCat — used for in-app purchases made through the Android app on Google Play. Google handles all payment processing. RevenueCat is used to manage and verify entitlements (what you've purchased). RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers — third-party vendors who help us operate the App (e.g., our database host, payment processors), under strict confidentiality obligations
- Legal compliance — if required by law, court order, or government authority
- Business transfer — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may transfer to the new entity
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Children's Privacy
Black History Battle is intended for users 13 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
7. Security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted password storage, HTTPS for data in transit, and secure database hosting. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time
